Toyota Recalls 2010 Lexus GX 460
In contrast to the previous recalls this year, Toyota wasted little time recalling the Lexus GX 460 SUV for roll-over related risks. Approximately 10,000 affected vehicles have been sold in the USA. Earlier this month, Toyota suspended sales of the SUV partly in response to a story by Consumer Reports, where personnel from the magazine uncovered a potential problem related to stability and potential roll over risk.
Toyota said Lexus dealers will update the software in the Vehicle Stability Control system and the work is expected to take about 1 hour per vehicle.
Toyota recalls 600,00 Sienna Minivans
Toyota announced it is recalling 600,000 Sienna minivans due to potential corrosion problems on the cables that secure the spare tire to the vehicle. In severe cases, it is possible for these cables to fail and the spare tire could become separated from the minivan.
Model years affected include 1998 through 2010.
Vehicles affected include those originally sold or currently registered in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia and the District of Columbia
Toyota’s Lexus SUV called a “Saftey Risk”
Toyota Motor Corp's new Lexus GX SUV was labled a "safety risk" by a magazine, complicating efforts by the world's largest automaker to repair it's image after record recalls.
The 2010 GX 460 received the designation because of handling in emergency driving tests, Consumer Reports said today in a statement. The magazine, published by Yonker, New York based consumer union, said it hadn't deemed any vehicle a potential safety risk since 2001.
US Government seeks $16 million from Toyota over “sticky gas pedal” issue
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is seeking to fine Toyota over $16 million dollars for failing to notify the administration of a known "defect" for over 4 months. This would be the maximum penalty the government could impose on the auto maker.
The NHTSA discovered that Toyota became aware of the sticky gas pedals back in September of 2009 from documents submitted by Toyota to the agency. Under federal regulations, an automaker has 5 days to inform the agency once it has determined that a safety defect exists on one of its vehicles.

President Akio Toyoda says when is comes to recalls the final say still rests in Japan.
Toyoda, grandson of the automakers founder, has been under increasing pressure to show more leadership as the world's largest car company try to handle the recall of about 8.5 million vehicles world wide.
Toyota expanding Tundra recall to all 2000-2003 vehicles
Toyota is expanding its recall of the 2000 through 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks to include vehicles in all 50 US states. In late 2009, Toyota announced the recall to fix the part of the truck's frame that could be corroded and could lead to either the spare tire, fuel tank and/or brake lines to break free of the truck.
Originally the recall was limited to vehicles located in 20 cold weather states.
Toyota has stated that owners of the affected vehicles would be notified beginning in mid March.
Toyota adds Avalon & RAV4 to Repair Program For “Oil Hose Leaks”
On March first Toyota Motor Corp., Said it will expand their repair program for leaking oil hoses to 217,000 more late model Avalon sedans and RAV4's.
The repair program is not a safety related recall and includes 2007, 2008 and 2009 model years, Toyota said today in a e-mailed statement. The repairs started last year on more than 716,000 Toyota Avalon's, Camry's, RAV4's and Lexus Es350 and RX350 Toyota said.
The repair is related to the rubber portion of an oil supply hose that may degrade over time, producing an abnormal engine noise and the oil pressure light to come on, Toyota said.
Toyota Recall Update – No evidence of electronic throttle failure in repaired cars
March 5th Toyota Motor Corp. said a partial review of complaints of unintended acceleration after vehicles were repaired had found no evidence of electronic throttle system failing on fixed vehicles.
Toyota recalled more than 6 million vehicles in the U.S. due to loose floor mats that can jam the accelerator and will not spring back as designed, Toyota said this week it has fixed more than 1 million vehicles.
U.S. regulators said they are reviewing more than 60 complaints that the fixes made, had not solved the problem.
General Motors Recalling 1.3 million Vehicles – Chevy’s and Pontiacs
GM is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America due to a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury.
U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation on January 27th into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the U.S. after 1,100 complaints were received due to the power steering.

Toyota’s U.S.- Toyota Japan Disconnect Americans have Little Power
Toyota Motor Corp. has spent 20 years telling the U.S. consumers how deeply it has sunk it's roots into America.
The disconnect between Toyoat U.S.A. and Toyota Japan, as well as Toyota sales and manufacturing in the U.S. partly accounts for the giant's current problem, recalls,lawsuits and public scoldings according to the testimony of congress last week.
Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sale U.S.A. and Toyota's highest ranking U.S. sales executive, admitted under Capitol Hill questioning last week that decisions about whether to recall U.S. products for safety issues are all made in Japan.
Toyota Chief to Create a task Force to Reform Communication
Toyota Motor president Akio Toyoda has ordered the creation of a temporary task force to improve internal and external communication as the automaker seeks to restore confidence in its damaged reputation.
The world's largest automaker is mired in a quality crisis that threatens their image and sales, exacerbated by what many saw as a bungling of it's communication with regulators and consumers since it expanded a series of recalls a month ago.
Maruti Suzuki recalls European Altos and Nissan Pixos on a Possible Fuel Leak
India's top car maker Maruti Susuki India said it is recalling 100,000 A-Star hatchbacks to fix a possible fuel leak.
The recall of the Altos and Pixos, which begun in November is about half complete at the cost of about 100 Million Rupees ($2.2 Million) the company said.
The recall includes cars sold in Europe though a tie-up with Japan's Nissan Motor Corp, under the Nissan Pixos name.
An internal analysis had shown that when fuel was filled beyond a certain point there was a possbility of leakage.
Toyota to shut US Plants after Recall
Toyota Motor Corp has decided to cancel production at two U.S. plants for a total of two weeks anticipating a drop in sales in the wake of the massive recalls.
The world's biggest automaker plans to halt work at it's Kentucky and Texas Plants for 14 days between late February and April as the sales of Camry,Avalon,Tundra and other models recalled for sticky accelerators slump.
Honda Recall expands to another 438,000 vehicles
After recalling 646,000 Honda Fit models less than two weeks ago, the automaker announced the expansion of the airbag recall of 438,000 vehicles on Wednesday.

The problem stems from the vehicles airbag inflators which can place too great a force on the airbag when put into use, fracturing the inflator and causing metal shards that have resulted in 12 incidents, including one fatality.
