How to check your car’s engine coolant
Making sure there is enough engine coolant is important. Low amount of lack of coolant causes the engine to overheat and that can cause a lot of damage. All can be easily avoided by preventive maintenance - by checking the coolant level regularly.
Before you check the engine coolant level make sure the engine is NOT hot! Let the engine cool off a good amount of time - several minutes - before opening the coolant overflow tank.
On the side you will see level markers for full and low.
Radiator Repair and Maintenance Information
If you maintain your own vehicle, you need to keep in mind general radiator maintenance and what you need to do in order to keep your radiator working properly. A radiator is used to remove the heat produced by the engine. Without proper maintenance, radiator replacement might be needed.
The radiator is a reservoir for the antifreeze and water mixture. The mixture is then pumped through the engine to remove heat. When the mixture returns to the radiator it passes through the core of the radiator which consists of metal tubes with fins, and as the air passes through it lowers the temperature of the coolant mix.

How to avoid an Overheating Car Engine
What is going on when your engine is overheating?
Your car's radiator or cooling system is probably not working correctly which makes your engine overheat. The cooling system probably needs to be repaired to fix the problem.
How to avoid engine overheating?
* If your car's air conditioning (or defroster) is on, turn it off.

How to flush a car radiator
Keeping up with regular car maintenance is important for safety and for longevity of your car. Flushing a car radiator is one of the critical maintenance jobs you should not ignore. Over time deposits can build up and create blockages in the cooling system. Flushing the radiator is a fairly simple job to do it yourself.
How do you flush a Radiator?
First you need to gather all items you will need to do the job including a Phillips screwdriver or a wrench, a rag, a container of radiator flush solution, funnel, coolant and a container to place the used coolant.
What to do if your Radiator Overheats
1). First, make sure your air conditioning is off. The A/C evaporator in located in front of the radiator and adds heat to the incoming air to the radiator.
2). Turn your heater to the highest setting and the blower to the highest setting. This will help the engine transfer the heat to the air.
3). Unless you are moving very little air reaches the radiator. If you are stuck in traffic, pull over and turn the vehicle off and open the hood.
4). Take a look at your over flow tank. If the overflow tank is empty you probably need coolant.
