Honda Motor Co. and Volkswagen AG have selected factory to dealer transporter Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics to handle vehicle processing and manage inventory on the ground at the automakers factories.

Wallenius is owned by Wallenius lines AB, of Sweden, and Wilh. Wilhelsen of Norway.  Both companies represent about 26 percent of the world’s fleet of carriers, according to a Wallenius spokesperson. The company transported 2.7 million vehicles worldwide in 2009.

Honda’s plant in Lincoln, Alaska marks the third such contract between the automaker and Wallenius, while Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Ten plant will be the first. Wallenius also provides Volkswagen with supply chain management services in South Africa, as well as Ocean transportation services in Europe, Oceania and Africa.

Wallenious is expected to begin its contract at the Honda plant May 1st. The plant has the capacity to produce up to 250,000 units a year. About 60 of the plants employees will be transitioned to Walleniuos, which will provide training and operations certification.
