All Electric, Zero Emissions, Nissan Leaf to cost about $25,000
Nissan revealed its retail pricing for the 100% electric Nissan Leaf at $32,780, which after the $7,500 federal tax credit will bring the price down to $25,280. Some states also offer an additional state tax incentive which would bring the price down even further. For example, California offers a $5,000 tax incentive towards the purchase of an electric vehicle. The Leaf will be sold with a home charging station which run about $2,200 installed. Nissan plans to offer a 36 month lease at $349 per month with $1, 999 down.
Nissan claims they will be able to earn a profit on Leaf at this price point. Nissan plans to introduce the Leaf in selected markets in December 2010 about 1 month after the introduction of the Chevrolet Volt.
Nissan estimates the Leaf will be able to travel 100 miles on about $3.00 in electricity costs. Nissan estimates the Leaf will have a range of about 100 miles on a fully charged battery.
With zero emissions, no transmission, no exhaust system, no timing belt, no fuel pump and no oil changes, the Nissan Leaf may not be a favorite of auto repair shops around the country.
