2002 Mercury Cougar Transmission Rebuild Estimate $450-$1,055+(0)
5 Speed Manual. Fluttering/Humming noise from engine bay. It's rhythm is consistent with how fast the vehicle is moving. Noise disappears the very instant I apply light pressure to the gas. Happens regardless of being in-gear. Suspected trans-axle bearing issue??
Also: Shifting is stiff/jerky. Feels like I'm "popping" into gears instead of sliding into them like before.

No more brakes. Car needs towing.
Miro Heyink
Hi Miro,
It sounds like you definitely need some new brake pads, and if your car is that bad off that it needs to be towed you probably did a number on your rotors as well.
The cost of replacing your brake pads and rotors will come down to parts and labor. Here's what you can expect to pay on average:
Parts= $60-$150 depending on the quality of the pad and rotor kit.
Labor= 1.5-2.5 hours $100-$175 depending on the shop's hourly rate and the skill of the mechanic.
