1996 Ford Contour Transmission Engine Seal Reapir Estimate $295-$545
Transmission leaking around the hookup to engine?
Kay Klosz
Hi Kay,
This could be a number of things that are going wrong with your transmission, but if it's only leaking a little fluid without having trouble shifting gears, it's probably just your seals that are worn down. Here's what you can expect to pay on average to get it fixed:
Parts= Transmission Seal Kit $20-$45 depending on the quality of the parts.
Labor= 3.5-6 hours $275-$500 depending on the shop's hourly rate and the skill of the mechanic.
Total=$295-$545
This repair is cheap on parts, but since it requires a lot of labor to get the transmission detached, open, fixed, put back together and reattached, it will still run you a potentially expensive bill.
Do some shopping around, and remember that you get what you pay for. So, if you feel comfortable paying a little extra, it's much more likely that the job will be finished with better quality and a lot faster.
