Hi Robert,

Sounds like you need to either rebuild your transmission, or simply have it replaced. Rebuilding it will be a little bit cheaper but more time-consuming, as opposed to having a new one installed in a few hours and paying a little extra. For convenience and an idea of what this could cost you at the most, here's what you can expect to pay on average for a new transmission:

Parts=$875-$1,750+ depending on the quality of the transmission and if it is new or used.

Labor= 3.5 hours- 1 day $250-$500 depending on the shop's hourly rate and the skill of the mechanic.

Total= $1,125-$2,250+

Keep in mind that you can always opt to buy a used transmission to save yourself some cash.

Also, taking a trip to the junkyard to see if you can pull a transmission out of a spent Trailblazer is a great way to get a used transmission for even cheaper.

  1. I have a 2005 Trailblazer. My radio / clock has been shutting down with out warning and than coming on again with out warning or pressing any buttons. Last night I started my Trailblazer and all the dash lights stayed on, Battery light, ABS light, Airbag light, Engine light, during this time my radio / clock/ gauges/ and power windows, would not work. Than with out warning...poof everything came back on and it started working. My Blazer always starts and runs... but the electrical system...do I need a new brain in my vehicle?
