 1979 Chevrolet Nova Engine Replacement Estimate $1,200 $1,770+

I am looking to replace my L6 engine with a 305 or 350. I haven't found the engine yet but would at least like to know a quote.

Hi GeVance,

It shouldn't be too tough to track down a 305 or 350, but it will take some digging and some money. Since the 350 will be a bit more expensive, I'll quote you on that.

The cost of swapping your L6 for a 350 engine will come down to parts and labor. Here's what you can expect to pay on average:

Parts= $950-$1,350 depending on the quality/condition of the engine.

Labor= 1-2 days $250-$420 depending on the shop's hourly rate and the skill of the mechanic.

Total= $1,200-$1,770+

You may be able to cut down on the cost by getting a 350 that's in bad condition and rebuilding it, but you might end up paying the same with the extra labor costs.

However, you sound like you know what you're doing enough to do it yourself, so the rebuild might be a good idea.
