Preventive Maintenance for your car. Repairs you can – and should do

Preventive maintenance for your car you can - and should - do.

We spend money and time to get our cars fixed when they break down or something goes wrong - not to mention accompanying aggravation and frustration.

There are several preventive maintenance items that you can do, even if you don't have much knowledge about the workings of a car engine etc. Some are very quick and easy to do, others take a little more work.

1. Change your oil regularly - if you don't want to get yourself messy doing this, take your car in for an oil change - yes, regularly.
2. Replace windshield wipers from time to time - how frequently? depends on where you park your car, weather conditions etc.
3. Keep your tires inflated evenly and check frequently.
4. Change tires - e.g. summer /winter, you need a little elbow grease, a jack and to loosen and tighten a couple of bolts.
5. Change light bulbs - similar to changing light bulbs at your home.

The owners manual is a handy reference guide to help you with these preventive maintenance items. If you are not comfortable doing these types of preventative maintenance to your car you can always take it to a mechanic who will be happy to do them for you.
